So, how many people are caged anyway?

I decided to ask.

Something that frequently comes up in r/chastitytraining on Reddit is wild speculation on how many people are locked. Numbers like 5% of often seen based on a few cage sales reports as well as the infamous Cellmate hack.

Well, we live in the age of the internet which incidentally makes taking surveys incredibly simple. Who would want to take such a survey? Why, the people who frequent r/SampleSize of course.

I posted my survey early this morning and I got my last response about five hours later so I figured it was diminishing returns time and I might as well share what I found.

The post was made from a Reddit account I created just for that purpose so there would be no chastity content on it and it simply described itself as a survey on a certain NSFW practice and it’s target audience were penis owners 18 or over (I wasn’t doing to dive into vulva results as the usual question is about penis-owners).

The survey was done using a professional survey tool that allowed for branching based on answers which I primarily used to bring the respondent to the end and not present questions that made no sense based on their prior answers.

I do wonder how much of this was due to the Cellmate hack and the recent Fetish of the Year article in Cosmo. But I was quite surprised it was that many.

Of those that had hear of it, a significant few have tried a device.

A bit over 5% of the total responses have tried one and almost 7% of those who have heard of it. Wow. Think about that. If you’ve ever heard of male chastity, there’s a 7% chance you’ll buy a device (I know, I’m being very casual with my treatment of the data here).

Let me go into those respondents:

First of all, only two of those five have used their device in the last six months:

So 40% of them are currently practicing.

If people interpreted the choices correctly, quite a few over-priced knockoffs from places like “LockTheCock” or “Cobra Chastity”.

And quite a few long term lockers. I think I probably could have phrased the choices or the question better though.

What about keyholders? Looks like most were solo locking.

Of the two currently practicing, one has a keyholder and the other is solo locking. But the latter has only been using his device for less than a month while the person with a keyholder has been in it for a while. I wish there were more results to understand the interplay between having a keyholder and sticking with chastity.

The new user had this to say.

I've only wore it one or twice, it's a flat cage so it's not exactly comfortable and I may get a smaller one because this one is steel and i domt [sic] know if it's too heavy as its [sic] my first cage.

What about the three that haven’t worn a cage in the past six months. Looks like two would be willing to continue:

The person who filled out the “if..” part responded: Yes if “I felt like it and I had someone to riff off of”. I assume that means if he had a keyholder but not really sure.

Conclusions

So, the most common guesses seem to be something like 5% of people have a device. That number certainly agrees with this survey, 5 out of 93. It looks like if you’re talking about currently into chastity, the number is less than half of that, 2%. But out of 93 responses, we have one person who is locked how many of us are. He responded that he had a fully custom 3D printed device but what I considered odd in his response is he wore it for less than 12 hours at a time. I would speculate that he doesn’t lock at work for whatever reason.

I do not have a background in any of the areas of study I would need to truly interpret this data. I think the only thing I can say based on the sample size is that a large majority of adult penis owners have heard of male chastity and of that, a significant minority have owned a device. But once you whittle the results down to that group you have n = 5 which you can’t really draw any real conclusions other than to say “that’s interesting”.
